Agent Phil Coulson (And Those Other Avengers)

I like every movie I’ve ever seen, so a review from me is absolutely useless. This is why I don’t really “review” things here on the CultRetro blog; I just like to bring them up and talk about whatever thoughts or recollections films may inspire for me personally.

Hearing that Zack Snyder is making a Superman movie with Henry Cavill… it seems pretty clear to me that DC has no friggin’ clue what to do with their superhero properties.

I think the Marvel movies, on the other hand, are absolutely brilliant and I like just about every creative choice made in every single one of them. Jon Favreau directing Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark? Genius! Kenneth Branagh (a guy that has spent his life’s work trying to bring Shakespeare to the masses) directing Thor? Inspired! Joe Johnston (director of The Rocketeer, one of my all-time favorite movies) making a World War II-era Captain America movie starring Chris Evans? Seriously? Are they making these for me personally?

And then… AND THEN… geek icon Joss Whedon tying it all together into an Avengers movie? MAGNIFICENT!

However, there WAS a creative decision that I did NOT like (which I suppose was the point).  Here’s hoping it was just a Life Model Decoy. If it wasn’t, then may he live on in many, many more shorts like this…

Excuse me… I also have this gun. :)

Unlike you I have not liked every movie I have seen. The Avengers was one of two movies I have paid to see this entire year. It was awesome and Agent Coulson stole every scene he was in.
