It’s hard to blame The Creature for crushing on Julie Adams as Kay Lawrence in Creature from the Black Lagoon. Her white one piece swimsuit is one of the most icon bits of swimwear in screen history, and the gal wearing it is unforgetable as well. We referenced many of the classic Creature photos while shooting our own promo shots for the now-in-post-production Stormy Tempest: Caress of the Moss Monster. I’ll be posting some of our Stormy images tomorrow, along with the photos of Julie that inspired them.
Julie Adams (or Julia Adams or Betty May Adams depending on when you ask her) is famous for The Creature movie, but she has worked continuously ever since. Recently you might have seen her as Amelia , one of “The Others” on J. J. Abrams Lost TV series. Julie has also had long runs on CSI: New York, Cold Case and General Hospital. Check out Julie in The Underwater City on Amazon Instant. And see her take a bullet and keep on fighting in Wings of the Hawk if you can track down a copy.

Casting Julie Adams in Creature was a master stroke! She was magnificent and stole the movie from the creature in my opinion. Just goes to show you, the right lead actress can make or break that kind of movie.
Thank you for all the info contained in this entry. I did not know about “The Underwater City” and “The Wings of the Hawk” movies and was pleased to learn about them.
Julie has a great career being leading lady to Rock Hudson, Tyrone Power, James Stewart and many other Hollywood legends. Her career began in 1949, long before the CREATURE. I fell in love with her in 1954 when I first saw CFTBL and have always considered Julie to be one of the true cinema beauties. I collect her films and TV appearances which include HAWAIIAN EYE, 77 SUNSET STRIP and too many more to list here. I got to meet Julie in 2004 at the Asheville Film Festival and was fortunate to spend quality time with the lady including sharing a few meals. Always a class act, Julie Adams certainly lived up to my expectations and then some. Hey, they don’t make ‘em like Julie Adams any more!
When we shot CARESS OF THE MOSS MAN I certainly had in the back of my mind the image of the Creature caressing the legs of Kay Lawrence underwater in CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON.
Nicola Rae is a former competitive swimmer. We’ve discussed recreating that scene and doing something with Stormy underwater someday… if we can ever figure out how to shoot decent footage while submerged in poor lighting for several hours without breaking the bank (or knowing how to scuba dive).
If we want to get REALLY fancy we could even drive up to Wakulla Springs State Park where they filmed the underwater ballet scenes for the original CFTBL!!
Okay… now i’m just fantasizing.
Your fantasizing!
