When I want one of our actresses to act sexy or flirty for a scene, I often ask them to “act like Catwoman”… though what I REALLY mean is “act like Julie Newmar”.
Not only was Julie Newmar incredibly gorgeous in that painted-on catsuit, but her mannerisms and speech oozed sex appeal. Her dialog delivery was effortlessly suggestive. Her every pose was fluid, graceful and feminine. She made being sexy seem casual and accidental and innocent, though every move was deliberate and calculated.
She knew exactly what she was doing… but acted like she didn’t. In my opinion, it’s a lost art.
“The Dark Knight Rises” will hit theaters soon and I have no doubt it will be an excellent film, but I’m honestly not expecting much out of Catwoman. Anne Hathaway is a worthy “Angel of Action” for a variety of reasons, as are Halle Berry and Michelle Pfeiffer. I’m sure I’ll make entries for them at some point in the future, but I doubt I’ll refer to them as being Catwoman. I’ll stick with Julie, thanks.
